Hofacker and Hobart's Teck Nash Engage in Lengthy and Rainy Pitchers' Duel, Knights Fall 3-0

Potsdam, NY – A lengthy delay in the middle innings kept the starters off the mound for a bit, but both returned to throw solid games on Saturday, as the Clarkson University Baseball team ended up on the short side of a 3-0 pitchers' duel against Hobart College at Jack Phillips Stadium.

The Golden Knights fell to 8-15 overall while Hobart improved to 14-11 on the season. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, slated for a 12:00 noon start.

Hobart would score all the runs it would need in the top of the second inning. Connor Schmiedlin reached on a walk and was sent home after a home run by Richard Tremble. Shortly after that shot, the field was drenched with rain and hail creating a lengthy delay, but both Clarkson's Nicholas Hofacker and Hobart's Teck Nash returned to dealing in the middle innings.

Clarkson had its chances in the game, leaving two runners on in the bottom of the first, third, fifth, eighth, and ninth. The best chance for a run for the Knights came in the third, but CJ Cartier was thrown out at the plate to keep the Knights off the board.

Hobart would pick up a run in the top of the ninth for insurance purposes. Tremble was hit by a pitch and then stole second. When Jack Byrnes walked, Tremble stole third. After another stolen base from Byrnes and a walk to Nate Johnson loaded the bases. Christian Petry lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Tremble to race home with the Statemen's third run of the game.

Teck Nash got the win for Hobart, throwing seven innings and allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out six. For Clarkson, Hofacker went 8.1 innings and gave up only four hits, but also walked four and hit four, striking out five along the way.
