Dumont Produces 11th 20-Point Conference Game in Loss at Union

Schenectady, NY – Sophomore Cassidy Dumont posted her fifth straight 20-point game for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights suffered deficits on the offensive glass and in turnovers during their 68-46 defeat against Union College on Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 8-14 overall and 5-12 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 9-14 and 7-10 in conference games. The loss eliminated Clarkson from postseason contention, so the Green and Gold will be playing their final game of the season on Saturday when the team takes on Skidmore College.

Clarkson fell into an early hole, trailing by eight after a pair of free throws from Kendall Dengenhart put the margin at 10-2 near the midway point of the opening quarter. The Knights trailed by that same amount at the conclusion of the first period, but found themselves down by 16 when Jelena Perovic hit back-to-back layups in the second quarter, with the latter make coming at the 5:43 mark and putting the score at 25-9. Dumont got back on her scoring track and scored eight points the rest of the period, but the Knights were down by 19 at the break, 36-17.

Dumont had 14 points in the first half on 7-for-11 shooting, but the rest of the team was just 1-for-16 from the floor.

At the start of the second, Union scored the first seven points to expand the margin to 26, though the Knights would rally back with the next seven points to return the margin to its original halftime gap. That would be as close as it would get, however, and Union cruised down the stretch for a 22-point win.

Union had a significant advantage on the boards, outrebounding Clarkson 50-32 overall with a 17-4 edge in offensive boards. Those second chances were considerable, as Union scored 14 points after offensive rebounds and the Knights had none. The Dutchwomen also scored 13 points off 14 Clarkson turnovers, and the Knights picked up only seven points off eight Union miscues, creating a 20-point differential in the two categories, which was nearly the final margin.

Dumont finished with 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting, while Elaina Porter and Raelin Burns each chipped in eight points. Bella Doyle also had seven rebounds.

For Union, Kennedy Clark led the Dutchwomen with 17 points. Olivia Pachla had a double-double thanks to 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Megan Lee nearly matched those numbers on 11 points and 9 rebounds.
