Knights Improve to 6-0 in Liberty League with Sweep of Union College

Schenectady, NY – Sophomore Allyson Treichel enjoyed her best match of the season for the Clarkson University Volleyball team, posting 16 kills and five blocks as the Golden Knights remained unbeaten in the Liberty League with a three-set sweep of Union College, 25-15, 25-12, 25-17, on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights collected their eighth win in a row to move to 11-7 overall and 6-0 in the Liberty League, while the Dutchwomen fell below .500 at 9-10 and 2-3. Clarkson returns to non-league action on Saturday as the team takes on SUNY Cortland Williams in a tri-match at Cortland.

In the opener, the Knights led in the first handful of points, but fell behind 8-4 to the Dutchwomen. Clarkson still trailed by one near the midway point of the set (12-11), but the Green and Gold's offense got going as both Sara Galante and Allyson Treichel recorded multiple kills to put Clarkson on two mini-runs to turn the deficit into a 10-point win (25-15).

Set two was never in doubt, as Clarkson rolled out to an early 10-3 lead, with a five-point spurt seeing Galante record two kills and Treichel notch three kills. Union briefly got back within five, but Clarkson expanded the margin to double digits and never looked back.

The third set was the closest of the match, especially when the Dutchwomen knocked own four straight points before Clarkson could run away with the game. The Dutchwomen never took the lead, but only trailed by one (13-12) at the midway point and again six points later (16-15). However, two aces from Emma Baxter highlighted a key 6-0 run for Clarkson, and the Green and Gold again won by a comfortable margin.

Treichel hit .483 in the match, striking for 16 kills against just two errors in 29 attempts, to go along with five block assists. Galante also hit over .400, going 12-1-27 with three block assists. Isabelle Crow ran the offense with 39 assists and also chipped in 10 digs and two aces. Emma Baxter and Abigail Spector anchored the defense with 16 and 12 digs, respectively, while Kristin Werdine also contributed eight kills and 13 digs.

For Union, Keara Page and Nikki Newcomer each produced seven kills, with Newcomer also adding nine digs. Georgia Pool had 17 digs and Haley Kresch added 17 assists.
