Clarkson Falls at Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY – Vassar came out burying 3-pointers in the opening minutes and the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team was unable to keep pace in a 91-47 loss in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in conference games and Vassar moved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league contests. Clarkson will be home next weekend to take on Skidmore College and Ithaca College, beginning a stretch where the Green and Gold will play six of seven games at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Brewers shot at least 50 percent from the floor in all four quarters and finished with a 59.1% success rate overall (39-for-66).

In the opening quarter, Vassar went 4-for-4 on its first four possessions, including three 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds. The depleted Knights struggled in the opening period, but finally found a rhythm for the final six-plus minutes where they outscored Vassar 14-13. The teams were mostly even in the third quarter but another big run in the fourth period allowed the Brewers to distance themselves from the Green and Gold.

Sophomore Lauren Bell was just short of a double-double for Clarkson with nine points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Junior Emma Buonanno produced across the board with eight points, five boards, three assists and three steals, and freshman Mariah Benavides tossed in eight more points for Clarkson.

For Vassar, Sophie Nick shot 9-for-12 from the field to record 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Isa Peczuh shot 5-for-13 from beyond the 3-point arc for 15 points while both Emily Tincher and Jackie Cenan reached double figures with 10 points. Ryan DeOrio added nine points and seven assists and Sarah Gillooly also had nine assists off the bench.
