Led by ninth-year head coach Matt Desrosiers and assistant coaches Britni Smith and Tony Maci, the Golden Knights are 2-1-1 on the season after falling 2-1 at St. Lawrence last Friday and tying the Saints 3-3 at home on Saturday. It was the first time in 12 regular season weekends that Clarkson had failed to win at least one of two games, a streak that dated back to October 30th and 31st of 2015.

Clarkson continues to get offensive contributions from all over the roster as four different players scored against the Saints. Corie Jacobson, Rhyen McGill, and Josiane Pozzebon all scored at home against St. Lawrence and now all three share the team lead with two goals and three points.  Joining the trio with three points is newcomer Ella Shelton who has three assists in her first four collegiate games.

Clarkson has five other skaters who have tallied multiple points so far. Captains Cayley Mercer and Savannah Harmon have two points as does assistant captain Genevieve Bannon. Bannon is still one point away from 100 for her career, and she will be the 12th Clarkson player to reach the century mark.  Loren Gabel picked up her first goal of the season on Friday to give her two points while Cassidy Vinkle tied her career high with two assists on Saturday.

The series against St. Lawrence snapped a few Clarkson streaks. The loss against the Saints was the first time that Clarkson had lost to St. Lawrence in seven meetings. It was also the first time that Clarkson had been outshot in consecutive regular season games since St. Lawrence and Rensselaer did so on February 3rd and 6th in 2015. Clarkson also falls to seventh in both national polls, which is the lowest Clarkson has been ranked since February 16th, 2015.

McGill is tied for second in the country with a pair of power-play goals while Bannon and Pozzebon are tied for 17th as each have one power-play goal. Bannon and Pozzebon are also tied for third in game-winning goals with one apiece. Jacobson, Pozzebon, and Shelton are all tied for 12th in points per game among defensemen while Shelton is also tied for 13th in points per game among rookies.

Overall, Clarkson has the 14th best scoring offense as the Green and Gold average 2.50 goals per game. Their scoring defense is tied for 11th, allowing two goals per game. The Golden Knights are tied for 13th in power-play, converting 13.3% of their opportunities. However, Clarkson is just 21st in penalty kill, with a percentage of 79.3.
Wisconsin enters the weekend with a record of 3-0-1 and the top spot in the national polls. The Badgers opened the season with three consecutive wins before skating to a draw with Ohio State. In four games so far against their conference opponents, the Badgers have outscored teams 14-3. Wisconsin's offense is tied for sixth in the country, scoring 3.50 goals per game while the defense is the best in the country, allowing just 0.75 goals per game.  The Badgers are very strong on the penalty kill as they rank fourth in the country with a percentage of 94.4 and have allowed just one power-play goal.

Ann-Renee Desbiens has been one of the best goaltenders in the country. She has started all four games for Wisconsin and is third in the country with a goals against average of 0.74. Desbiens has a save percentage of .941 and has two shutouts, marks that put her 15th and tied for second in the country. The leading scorers for Wisconsin are Sam Cogan (3-1) and Emily Clarkson (2-2) with four points each. However, the Badgers are very balanced as 12 skaters have multiple points.

Clarkson and Wisconsin have only met twice, with both meetings coming in January 2015. The two teams skated to a 1-1 tie before Wisconsin won the rematch 4-0. Like Clarkson, Wisconsin reached the 2014 and 2016 NCAA Frozen Fours. However, in both 2014 and 2016, the Badgers fell to Minnesota in the semifinals, while Clarkson won the 2014 National Championship and fell to Boston College in overtime in the other 2016 semifinal.

The two teams will meet at 3:00 pm on Friday afternoon and the same time on Saturday afternoon.
