La Plume, P.A. - Three different players scoring in double-digits led the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to a convincing 70-33 win vs Keystone College on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights move to 2-1 overall, going 2-0 on the trip to northeastern Pennsylvania while Keystone drops to 0-4. Clarkson will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Vermont State University Castleton at 5:30 p.m.
Clarkson wasted no time, getting out to a lead early, as Elizabeth Aiossa opened scoring with a layup and Addie Kea would follow with a three-pointer less than a minute into the contest. Keystone would score the next basket courtesy of a Phaneirra Barnett lay-in but Clarkson would respond with the next 11 points over four minutes to establish a 16-2 advantage halfway through the opening quarter. Another Kea trifecta at 4:31 gave the Knights a 15-point lead, one that would grow to 23 points with a second 11-0 run of the first 10 minutes. Tayana Bibbins would connect on a mid-range jumper with 14 seconds remaining, cutting the Knight lead to 27-6 after one quarter.
Clarkson again would score the first five points of the second quarter in less than a minute but a cold streak from both teams was finally broken by Barnett at the 6:48 mark with two free throws as the Knights led 32-8. Jayda Price added a jumper for the Giants a minute later pushing the hosts into double-figures on the scoreboard. Clarkson would break their mini-drought with an 8-2 scoring streak, bumping the score to 40-12 with less than a minute remaining in the half following Aiossa finding a cutting Fallon Griffin for the lay-up. Keystone managed to connect on a lay-up of their own with under 30 seconds left, as Clarkson would take a 40-14 lead into halftime.
Keystone managed to match the Knights in scoring coming out of halftime as both teams would score 14 points apiece in the third quarter. Hailee Hacket produced two long-range attempts through the third, cutting the lead to 24 with a minute remaining before Maddy Polky would hit two free throws to give Clarkson a comfortable 54-28 edge going into the final 10 minutes.
Keystone would again get the lead back to 24 with a quick layup just over 30 seconds in but buckets from Griffin and Bella Doyle put the Knights up 30 with 5:36 left on the clock. A Brookelin Murray three-pointer at the 5:11 mark would count as the final scoring for the Giants in the contest as Clarkson would close out the remainder of the contest on a 10-0 run for the 70-33 victory.
Clarkson would hold an advantage in most statistical categories across the board, with the largest lead being 37, coming with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Knights combined for 26 assists while also leading in points in the paint (50-12), points off turnovers (19-8) and second chance points (19-6). The Giants led in bench scoring with a 13-12 mark.
Doyle led the way with a game-high 16 points, 10 rebounds while also dishing out five assists on 8-9 shooting. Griffin and Kea both chipped in 15 points with Kea going 3-3 from behind the arc while also adding six assists and four steals. Aiossa added six assists of her own as five different players also recorded a blocked shot for the Knights. Barnett led the Giants with eight points and five rebounds. Hackett chipped in six points and a team-high eight boards.
