CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. Bard/Vassar (1/10-11)

Looking to break out of a funk on offense, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team is back at home for the weekend, taking on Bard College and Vassar College at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Series: A year ago, the Golden Knights swept Bard, taking the game on the road by seven and in Potsdam by 17. Vassar claimed a pair of wins over Clarkson, winning by double figures each time.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-7, 0-4 Liberty League): Junior Raelin Burns ranks second on the team in scoring average with 10.3 points per game and had her career-high of 21 points against Vassar the last time the two teams faced one another. Overall, Burns averaged 12.8 points per game against the Brewers and Bard a year ago. Sophomore Addie Kea was the top scorer against Bard in both games last season, averaging 14.5 points per contest in the Golden Knights' two wins.

Key Stats for Bard (2-9, 0-4 Liberty League): Four players average seven points or more per game for the Raptors, but none reach double figures. The closest, Lexi Miller, is averaging a near double-double at 9.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest. Miller's second outing against Clarkson was a strong one as she had 21 points and 11 rebounds in the Raptors' loss. Bard is shooting just 28.8% from the floor and 23.7% from beyond the 3-point arc while also turning the ball over nearly four more times per game than its opponents.

Key Stats for Vassar (6-4, 2-1 Liberty League): Last year's conference champion, Vassar has won 21 of its 23 contests against league opponents since the beginning of last season. Three starters log most of the minutes and most of the shots as Julia Harvey (16.6 points per game), Tova Gelb (16.4 ppg) and Sierra McDermed (14.8 ppg) are all key components to the team's offense. Vassar has made more free throws (152) than opponents have even attempted (144) and the Brewers also enjoy a rebounding advantage over opponents of close to seven boards per game.
