Saints Down Knights in Liberty League Return, 58-39

Potsdam, NY – A long stretch with just a handful of points over the course of 10-plus minutes put the Clarkson University Women's Basketball in a hole from which it could not recover, as St. Lawrence claimed a 58-39 Liberty League win over the Golden Knights Monday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League while St. Lawrence edged forward to 7-3 and 2-2. Clarkson stays home this weekend when it faces Bard College and Vassar College.

St. Lawrence never trailed in Monday's contest, scoring the first six points in the opening two minutes. Clarkson ended the early run but still trailed by double-digits when Annie Perry hit a jumper late in the first quarter. Clarkson got back within eight, scoring the final four points of the period. Perry opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to put St. Lawrence back up by double figures, but Clarkson kept things within striking distance for most of the quarter. Fallon Griffin had the Knights down by 11 after a jumper at the 3:45 mark. Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, those were the last points of the half as St. Lawrence rolled off nine straight, including two free throws from Caelan McHarney in the waning seconds of the half.

At the start of the third quarter, the Knights scored one more basket, but that would be in as St. Lawrence went on a 17-2 run over the course of nearly 12 minutes. Cassidy Dumont finally got things going for Clarkson offensively with a layup at the 1:51 mark of the third, only to see St. Lawrence keep things going for the remainder of the game.

Bella Doyle led the Knights in scoring with 10 points while also adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 assists. Fallon Griffin chipped in nine points. For St. Lawrence, Elizabeth Flynn had a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass. Mason Baker-Schlendering posted 12 points and six rebounds and Annie Perry had 11 points in just 18 minutes off the bench.
