2024-25 CU Women's Basketball Season Preview

Of the 5025 total minutes played by members of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in 2023-24, only 200 of those minutes are not returning for the upcoming season, as the Golden Knights hope that the experience gained from a year ago will help the team take a few steps up in the Liberty League standings in 2024-25.

Guided by second-year head coach Sherry Dobbs and assistant Mara Vaccaro, the Green and Gold return all five starters from last season, four of which had a year or less of collegiate experience on opening day.

The lone starter who had more than one full season was senior Cassidy Dumont, a Liberty League All-Star and D3hoops.com All-Region selection in her sophomore season. Dumont led the league in minutes played each of the last two seasons and will likely carry a similar load again as the team's top scorer for two straight campaigns. In fact, Dumont is just 19 points short of reaching 1000 for her career, which would make her only the ninth player in program history to reach quadruple digits. Similarly, she is already 11th in program history in field goals made (382) and eighth in 3-pointers made (101).

Joining Dumont in the back court are junior Raelin Burns and sophomore Addie Kea. Burns ranked second on the team in scoring a year ago at 11.8 points per game (11th in the Liberty League) and was second in 3-pointers made (34) just behind Dumont's 38. Kea emerged as the team's starting point guard after playing key minutes off the bench in the first four games of the season, and ended up ranking ninth in the league in assists (2.9 apg) while also chipping in 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. Classmate Emma Chambers started the first four games of the season before Kea became the team's point guard (which shifted Dumont to shooting guard) and averaged more than 24 minutes per game while also producing 2.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest. Seniors Lexi Huiatt and Veronica Tache also spelled the team's guards, as Tache ran the point and Huiatt provided athleticism on defense. Isabelle Vaccaro missed much of her first two seasons due to injury, but is looking to add to the team's depth in 2024-25, while freshman Sarah Abbott will be seeking to provide the same.

The front court for the Knights does not have the same kind of experience as the guards, but the duo that started a year ago played plenty. Junior Bella Doyle is a two-year starter who averaged 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, both of which ranked in the top 15 in the conference a year ago, while sophomore Elizabeth Aiossa contributed 3.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in roughly 24 minutes per contest.

Fortunately for the Knights, two additional forwards join the squad in 2024-25 looking to help the team draw closer to even on the boards, where the Knights had a deficit of nearly 13 per game a year ago. Sophomore forward Fallon Griffin, who missed all of last season due to injury, has an inside-outside game that will make her an immediate threat offensively for the Green and Gold, while junior transfer Riley Cullen returns to the game after two years off, adding another option on the block.
