Knights Wrangle Second Straight Scoreless Tie

Geneva, NY - For the second time in four days, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team was unable to come up with any goals but still salvaged a tie as the Golden Knights finished knotted up with Hobart College 0-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-0-5 on the season and 1-0-2 in the Liberty League, while the Statesmen saw their record go to 1-1-4 and 1-1-2. Clarkson will take on St. Lawrence University in Canton next Wednesday as the Knights continue their run of conference contests.

Not too many shots made it through the defenses in the first half, as the best attempts in the first 45 minutes generally went wide or high. Brady Leitner had a solid chance in the ninth minute for Hobart, but his attempt from about 15 yards out on the right side went wide of the opposite post. Clarkson's best chances came in the 23rd minute, when Josh Conklin's shot from well outside the penalty area was caught, while in the 43rd minute, Kai Endo's attempted volley went wide.

Both teams were able to get a few more shots on goal in the second half, with Carter Kladstrup standing out once again. Kladstrup again denied the Statesmen on a hard grounder in the 53rd minute and punched away another in the 64th minute. Between those attempts, Eric McKean had a shot off a direct kick from about 25 yards out, attempting to weave a shot through traffic, but Hobart goalkeeper Thomas Chyzowych scooped up the scoring attempt.

In the final 20-plus minutes of the game, Kladstrup had to make a few other stops as well, denying one in the 75th minute from the top of the 18 and then making another save on a hard grounder at the start of the 77th minute. His final save came in the 85th minute, but it wasn't particularly challenging as it was a lofting shot from 30 yards out.

Hobart finished with a 19-6 lead in shots, though the shots on goal ledger was much smaller at 5-2. Kladstrup denied five for his sixth shutout of the year, while Chyzowych picked up two saves.
