Every game in the Liberty League can be a challenge, but the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team will undoubtedly face its most difficult conference opponents this weekend when the team hits the road to take on William Smith College and Ithaca College, a pair of teams that are ranked in the top 15 in the country in the latest IWLCA poll.

The Series: Clarkson and Ithaca are the only teams to beat William Smith in Liberty League play since the start of the 2016 season, but the Golden Knights are still just 2-20 all-time against the Herons. The Green and Gold is winless in five tries against Ithaca, which includes two playoff contests where the Bombers eliminated Clarkson from the postseason in both 2019 and 2022.

Key Stats for Clarkson (5-2, 0-1 Liberty League): After a 5-0 start, the Golden Knights have lost two straight games, most recently a conference defeat against RIT. Clarkson's offense has been solid to start the campaign as five players have already accumulated 20 points or more in just seven contests. Julia Lavarnway is one point shy of 100 for her career, having posted 38 points on 14 goals and 24 assists in seven games. Madelynn Barnum surpassed that benchmark two games ago and ranks second on the team in scoring with 24 points on 19 goals and five assists, and she also ranks second on the team in draws (37) and first in caused turnovers (9).

Key Stats for William Smith (5-0, 0-0 Liberty League): The Herons have dodged no one in the early going of their schedule, having played and beaten four teams ranked in the top 20 in the country, including then fifth-ranked Salisbury in their last game. Maddie Montgomery leads the team with 24 points on 19 goals and five assists, while last year's Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year Allie McGinty has 12 points on six goals and six assists. Even with the challenging slate of games so far, William Smith is outscoring opponents 77-38. Maura Smeader has played a large role in that margin, as she has a 7.78 goals against average and .557 save percentage.

Key Stats for Ithaca (5-2, 2-0 Liberty League): The top offense in the Liberty League for several years, the Bombers last averaged less than 15 goals per game in 2018, and recorded 16.5 goals per game in 2021 and 16.47 goals per game in 2022. This year, the numbers are comparatively light for the Bombers, but the team has five players with 19 points or more. Chloe Nordyke leads the squad in both goals (21) and points (27), though Caroline Wise (18-6-24) and Sydney Phillips (19-2-21) are not far behind. Defensively, Phoebe Hosford and Olivia Puppo have each caused seven turnovers, and rank first and second on the team in groundballs with 12 and 10, respectively.
