Game Recap: Men's Baseball |

Nee and Doyle Homer, Knights Down RPI, 11-5

Potsdam, NY – For the second straight day the Clarkson University Baseball team put up double figures in runs, beating Rensselaer 11-5 in Liberty League action on Wednesday at Jack Phillips Stadium.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-14 overall and 5-7 in conference games, while the Engineers fell to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in the Liberty League play. Clarkson closes out the regular season this weekend with a three-game set at Ithaca College.

Both teams did a bullpen-by-committee game with numerous pitchers throwing for both sides. Clarkson got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with two runs. Kent Wilson and Colby Brouillette reached on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively, and then a groundball infield single to short by Mike Nee allowed Wilson to score on the throwing error. Joe Pagano followed with another infield single to drive in the second run.

In the bottom of the third, the Knights picked up two more runs as Sean Gill singled through the left side to make it 3-0, and Caleb Doyle later drew a bases loaded walk to force in another run. The top of the fourth saw the Engineers push one across as Jake DeFayette hit a solo homer to left-center, but the Knights earned that run back in bottom half of the frame on a solo shot from Mike Nee, almost to the same spot as DeFayette.

The fifth saw the Engineers score another run with a Dylan Albert double, but the Knights tacked on six in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away. Caleb Doyle hit a three-run homer down the left field line to make it 8-2, Mike Pagano singled in a run for the ninth run, and then another run came in on an error and later on a sac fly from Tommy Bianchi. RPI did pick up three runs in the sixth, but the two teams remained scoreless for the rest of the contest.

Nee finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Pagano went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two, and Doyle drove in three with his fourth home run of the season. Nicholas Hofacker picked up the win thanks to the pre-determined start rule, and Griffin Tubbs earned the save by tossing the final three frames.
