Knights Close Out 2022 With Loss to Skidmore

Potsdam, NY – Following a slow start, Skidmore College shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the final 35 minutes against the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team and the Golden Knights could not keep up in their season-ending 87-45 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their season come to a close at 5-19 overall and 4-14 in the Liberty League while Skidmore made its way into the postseason tournament at 14-9 and 9-9.

Clarkson got off to a good start and led by on two occasions in the early going. It was down the stretch of the first quarter that Skidmore took control. Trailing by one after a Cassidy Dumont layup had Clarkson up 9-8, the Thoroughbreds took the lead on an Amelia Medolla 3-pointer at the 2:15 mark. Five quick points from Andi Levitz had put Skidmore up by seven with just over a minute to play in the quarter, but one free throw for the Knights reduced the margin to six through 10 minutes.

Levitz hit a 3-pointer at 9:09 of the second and then another at 7:41 to kick start Skidmore's offense in after the first break and then a layup-and-one from Kate McCarney allowed the Thoroughbreds to push the advantage to double figures for the first time. Midway through the period, Skidmore went on a 17-8 run, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor in the stretch to expand the margin to as many as 21 in the first half, but a Ruthie Nolan 3-pointer on Clarkson's final possession of the half pulled the Knights to within 18 at the half.

The second half was more of the same for the Knights as Clarkson struggled to keep Skidmore off the glass. The Thoroughbreds produced a 27-16 rebounding advantage in the final 20 minutes, limiting Clarkson's second chances while continuing to shoot 50% or better to keep the Knights from launching a comeback.

Lauren Bell scored a team-high eight points and added six rebounds, Maddie Pratt snagged five rebounds and blocked three shots, and Emma Griffin tossed in four points to go along with four rebounds in 14 minutes.
