Knights Rally to Tie Skidmore, 1-1

Potsdam, NY – Goals in the early moments of each half proved to be all of the scoring on Tuesday afternoon, as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team tied Skidmore College 1-1 in its first Liberty League home game of the 2021 season.

The Golden Knights moved to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore saw its record go to 3-3-1 and 0-1-1. Clarkson will be back at Hantz Field on Saturday when the team hosts RIT.

It took less than 90 seconds for Skidmore to get on the board as Olivia Allen scored at the 1:24 mark. With the ball in the midfield on the right sideline, play worked itself into the middle of the field and a pass found Carly Craft down the left sideline as Skidmore looked to work something in the middle. With nothing coming together for the Thoroughbreds, Craft tossed the ball back to Allen roughly 25 yards out, and Allen lofted a soft ball into the box. Allen's attempt was then chipped past Clarkson goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio by Vanessa Eljaiek at 1:24.

Clarkson had chances in the first half, but the Knights would end up scoreless in the opening 45 minutes. That would change at the start of the second half as the Green and Gold quickly countered from their defensive end and got things rolling on offense in the first two minutes. Angelina Fahrenkrug picked up possession roughly 45 yards away from the Skidmore goal and sent a pass down the right side to Chloe Hodge. The freshman carried the ball forward another 10 yards and sent a high arching shot to the opposite post over the head of Skidmore keeper Ava Keller at 47:26.

Each team had some solid chances for the remainder of the second half, and Skidmore had three shots in the first overtime period to put pressure on the Knights. Clarkson's players got a second wind in the next overtime and also challenged the Thoroughbreds, but the two teams ended knotted in a tie, the first for both squads this season.

Clarkson held a small advantage in shots (15-13) and shots on goal (7-4) while also edging the Thoroughbreds in corner kicks (5-1). DiCaprio finished with three saves for Clarkson and Keller closed out the contest with six saves.
