Clarkson Volleyball Falls in Three to Ithaca

Potsdam, NY – A day after falling in a five-set thriller, the Clarkson University Volleyball team was swept at home in its second conference match of 2021, falling in three sets against Ithaca College (25-14, 25-17, 25-23) at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in league play and Ithaca moved to 8-6 and 2-0 in conference games. Clarkson will look to get on the winning track next Friday when it hosts St. Lawrence University before heading to Middlebury College the following day for a pair of non-conference matches.

Ithaca's offense ran well in the early going, striking for a .355 percentage in the opening set and a still respectable .257 in set two as the Bombers were able to win by 11 points and 8 points, respectfully, in the first two sets. Set three, just like Friday's match, saw Clarkson settle in, and the two teams battled back and forth to keep things close, including several ties in the latter points. However, the Bombers found the extra gear they needed late to close out Clarkson in three sets.

Freshman Allyson Treichel led Clarkson on offense with nine kills and classmate Annabella Regan chipped in seven kills for the Knights. Isabelle Crow produced 27 assists and a pair of aces and Emma Baxter led the Clarkson defense with 18 digs.

Ithaca was led offensively by Jamie Koopman, who notched a .421 hitting percentage with 11 kills. Jaelyn Hershberger was a dig short of a double-double, recording 10 kills and nine digs. Aleka Darko had five kills and five blocks, Peyton Miller produced 20 assists and three aces, and Jordyn Lynn Hayashi had 19 digs in the back row for the Bombers.
