Knights Fall Short at Unbeaten St. Lawrence, 62-38

Canton, NY – With a significant deficit on the glass, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team couldn't keep up with the pace of St. Lawrence University as the Golden Knights fell 62-38 in Liberty League action Wednesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference games while St. Lawrence remained unbeaten at 8-0 and 3-0. Clarkson will close out the first semester with its fourth straight road game, heading to Rochester for a non-conference game against St. John Fisher College on Friday.

Clarkson struggled in the first quarter, shooting just 2-for-18 in the first 10 minutes, with the Knights finding themselves down by 13 in the early going. In the second quarter, Clarkson recovered thanks to a strong defensive effort and a trio of 3-pointers from Mariah Benavides, Maddie Pratt, and Likhita Chanda in a stretch of just 70 seconds, getting the Knights within six (22-16). St. Lawrence recovered by feeding Katie Frederick on the inside, and an Ava McCann jumper at the 2:12 mark returned the margin to 13 points, the same as the end of the first period.

The third quarter saw St. Lawrence again return to the interior for its shots, going 8-for-13 from inside the 3-point arc in the period to push the margin over 20 points. The fourth quarter saw the two teams play even, as Clarkson's attempts from beyond the 3-point arc failed to cut the deficit.

Benavides led the Golden Knights with eight points and Chanda chipped in seven points in just 14 minutes. For St. Lawrence, Ava McCann scored 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting and Olivia Barringer had 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting. Katie Frederick added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
