Potsdam, NY – SUNY Canton scored 48 points in the paint against a depleted frontcourt of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights dropped a 69-54 decision to the Kangaroos Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-4 on the season while Canton evened its mark at 2-2. Clarkson is off through the Thanksgiving break and will begin the Liberty League slate the following weekend at Skidmore College and Union College.

The two teams stayed close for the first eight minutes, but SUNY Canton's forwards put together a solid run to help the Roos create some space. Canton went on a 13-4 run over the final two minutes of the first quarter and first three minutes of the second quarter, pushing its advantage to double figures before a Lauren Bell layup got the Knights within nine. Three different times Clarkson pulled within six in the second quarter, but Canton was able to go into the locker room with an 11-point advantage.

At the start of the third quarter, Likhita Chanda hit a pair of 3-pointers to get the Knights within seven (42-35), but Canton responded with a 9-0 run in a three-minute stretch to push the margin to 16 points. Clarkson never got back within single figures, though a jumper at 7:19 from Mariah Benavides made the score 56-46. It proved the last rush for the Knights as Canton scored the next six points to assure the win.

Lauren Bell and Mariah Benavides each scored 15 points to lead the Knights, with Bell shooting 6-for-10 and Benavides going 5-for-11 with three 3-pointers. Elaina Porter grabbed nine rebounds, including eight on the defensive end.

For Canton, Chelsey Raven scored 26 points, including 17 in the first half, going 12-for-18 from the floor. Raven also added 12 rebounds, with six coming on the offensive glass. Fellow frontcourt player Shanelle Borth also snagged 14 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor. Samantha Dayter and Seattle Lettau each contributed nine points.
