CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Ithaca/Skidmore (2/14-15)

The last road trip of the season awaits the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights will have two road trips in one this weekend, taking on Ithaca on Friday and then going across Route 90 to take on Skidmore on Saturday.

The Series vs. Ithaca: In the first matchup between the two teams, the Bombers came away from Alumni Gymnasium with a 77-63 victory. Clarkson's Emma Buonanno scored a career-high 22 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field.

The Series vs. Skidmore: The Golden Knights picked up a conference win against the Thoroughbreds in mid-January, slipping past Skidmore 67-61. Sophomore Maddie Pratt scored 14 points in just 17 minutes for Clarkson.

Key Stats for Clarkson (7-13, 3-11 Liberty League): Junior Hannah Earl has stepped up as Clarkson's leading scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Earl has been especially efficient as of late, averaging 17.6 points per contest over the last seven outings. Freshman Mariah Benavides is third on the team in scoring at 8.8 points per game and enjoyed her best shooting performance in college last Friday, burying five 3-pointers at RIT. Clarkson has taken the fewest free throws in the Liberty League this year, receiving 201 total free throws, 76 fewer than the team in ninth in that category.

Key Stats for Ithaca (16-5, 12-2 Liberty League): The Bombers receive 78.8% of their points from the starting five. Cassidy O'Malley is the team's leading scorer at 16.3 points per game, the second best figures in the Liberty League. O'Malley has produced 25 points or more in three of the last five games, and is averaging 20.4 points per game in that stretch. Grace Cannon (13.0 ppg) and KellyAnne O'Reilly (11.6 ppg) also rank in the top 20 in the Liberty League in scoring and help producing a scoring triumvirate that produces more than 40 points a game.

Key Stats for Skidmore (5-16, 3-11 Liberty League): The Thoroughbreds have taken fewer 3-pointers than any other team in the conference (272) and for good reason, as Skidmore is shooting just 26.1% from beyond the arc with 71 makes, 15 fewer than the ninth place squad in the league. Jessica Centore leads the team at 13.0 points per game while also adding 3.1 assist and 2.2 steals per game, the latter two figures ranking in the top four in the league. Centore is averaging 15.0 points per game over her last seven contests. Sophomore Kate McCarney is second in the league in assists (3.2 apg), but has upped her scoring at of late, averaging 17.3 ppg over the team's last four.
