Knights Earn 3-0 Shutout Over Bard

Potsdam, NY - Three different seniors scored goals and classmate Elyse Green posted her fifth shutout of the season as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team picked up a 3-0 Liberty League victory over Bard College Friday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-4-1 and 2-3-0 in Liberty League action, while Bard College fell to 3-10-1 and 0-6-0 in conference play. Clarkson will face Vassar College tomorrow afternoon, with the program celebrating the senior members of the program.

From the start of the game, the Golden Knights controlled play, but took some time to get a shot through the Bard defense. Midway through the half, Giulia Mahoney forced a Raptor turnover and passed the ball to Camryn Careccia, who was trailing the play. The senior midfielder received the ball in the middle of the box and rifled a shot past Bard goalkeeper Abigail Stanley at 29:57 to give the Knights a 1-0. Clarkson enjoyed 10 corner kick opportunities in the first half and was able to capitalize on one of those chances with just under 10 minutes left in the half. With 9:30 on the clock, senior Alicia Bushey lined up for a corner kick to the right of the Bard goal and sent the ball into the box, finding the head of Mahoney to give Clarkson a 2-0 edge. The Golden Knights were relentless in the opening half, leading the Raptors 12-1 in shots and 10-0 in corners.

The Knights would record an insurance goal less than five minutes into the second half to all but put the game away. Following a Raptor foul, Danielle Martin was given a free kick outside the 18-yard box. Martin, who has been proficient all year on free kicks, blasted the ball far side and past the outstretched arms of Stanley for Clarkson's third goal. The Golden Knights defense, which was great all game, prevented Bard from getting a shot in the second half.

Clarkson would finish the game with the advantage in shots (18-1), shots on goal (11-1), and corner kicks (13-1). Elyse Green only saw one shot on goal but was able to stop the scoring opportunity to secure the shutout. Abigail Stanley stood tall in goal for the Raptors registering eight saves on the day.
