Knights Suffer Defeat at St. Lawrence, 71-45

Canton, NY – Lopsided first and fourth quarters doomed the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team against St. Lawrence on Tuesday, as the Golden Knights dropped a 71-45 Liberty League decision at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 9-14 overall and 4-12 in the Liberty League, while St. Lawrence moved to 16-7 and 11-5 in conference games. Clarkson will close out the regular season this weekend at home, taking on Skidmore College on Friday and Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon.|

Clarkson struggled to stop St. Lawrence in the opening 10 minutes, as the Saints shot 14-for-17 and quickly built a sizeable advantage (29-6). Following two even middle quarters, it took more than six minutes before the Knights broke the scoring seal with a free throw, and by that point any chance of a comeback was finished.

St. Lawrence rattled off eight points in the first three minutes of the first quarter before the Knights finally got on the scoreboard, but a lengthier scoring drought midway through the period really put Clarkson behind. After Devin Sorell converted at 6:49, St. Lawrence went on a 13-0 run in the next five minutes, pushing the Knights behind by 21.

The second and third quarters combined saw the Knights pull a little closer with a positive margin of plus-3 (30-27) in that 20-minute stretch. However, St. Lawrence the first 13 points of the fourth quarter, pushing the gap to 33 points before the Knights started amassing point with both benches in the game.

Senior Devin Sorell scored a team-high 13 points for the Knights, while Molly Stewart tossed in nine for the Knights. Meghan Hynes led the Saints with 16 points and Katie Frederick recorded ad double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. St. Lawrence shot better than 50% from the floor (31-for-60) and enjoyed a 41-26 edge in rebounds.
