Dillon's Seven Goals Lead Clarkson to Big Win Over Frostburg State

Englewood, FL – Senior Kate Dillon scored seven goals on just seven shots in a stretch of less than 20 minutes as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team showed no rust in a 10-day layoff, beating Frostburg State 19-6 in the first game of its spring trip.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-1 on the season and will face Centre College tomorrow. Frostburg State dropped to 4-5 on the season.

In the opening 10 minutes, it did not appear as if the game would turn into a blowout as Clarkson owned just a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from sisters Taylor and Abby Collins. However, when Kate Dillon scored at the 16:28 mark of the first half, it sparked one of several offensive surges by the Knights. The final surge came in the last 10 minutes of the half when Clarkson rattled off six goals, including four in the final 5:40 to give the Knights an 11-4 lead at the break.

The second half continued to see things go in Clarkson's favor, as Dillon tallied twice in the first two minutes and Jaid Baytos added her seventh point of the game with a free-position shot goal at the 27:38 mark, allowing the clock to run with a 10-goal advantage. From there, it was a matter of Clarkson keeping possession and denying Frostburg many offensive opportunities.

While the Clarkson offense was in control for most of the game, the Knights also played well on defense, forcing the Bobcats into numerous turnovers while they were trying to clear the ball out of their zone. Frostburg was successful on just six of its 16 clears in the game.

Dillon finished with a career-high seven goals, which tied her collegiate career-high of seven points as well, while Baytos also added a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Baytos also added two groundballs and caused two turnovers. Abby Collins produced two goals and an assist and caused two turnovers. Lexi Smith, Taylor Collins, Katie Sergeant, Taylor Kwiek, Casey Shannon and Aubrey Borgesi each added a goal while Emma Andrews and Christina Pollard both produced an assist. Samantha Gladd gained the win by making seven saves in 49 minutes, 49 seconds before being relieved by Emily Eaton and Carrie Yurkon in the Clarkson crease. Clarkson owned a 36-15 edge in shots and forced 14 turnovers while committing just seven.
