Knights Earn Liberty League Playoff Spot Despite 2-0 Defeat at Rensselaer

Troy, NY – Even for just a little over two minutes, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team had to play catch up all day against Rensselaer, but couldn't come through with a goal in a 2-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights concluded the regular season with a record of 8-6-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the Liberty League, gaining the conference's final playoff spot with 13 points thanks to their four victories and one tie. With the head-to-head win Rensselaer gained the fifth seed in the conference tournament on an 8-7-2 mark and 4-4-1 in league games. Clarkson will head to Rochester to take on RIT on Tuesday in a Liberty League First Round contest.

Rensselaer senior Dali Alarjan opened the scoring in just the third minute, when she headed a cross from Jacqui Richard off the left post and in at 2:28.

Though the Knights had four shots in the first half, none of them went on the frame to challenge Rensselaer goalkeeper Joey Lyons.

Clarkson did get a shot on goal in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net to tie up the score. However, Rensselaer put to rest any hopes of a Golden Knights' comeback with an insurance goal at the 80:00 mark when Olenka Soko finished off a cross from Alexis Castrellon.

Rensselaer finished with a 22-6 edge in shots and a 10-3 lead in corner kick chances. Though the Engineers had 22 shots, just six of them were on target in the game as Elyse Green made four saves for Clarkson. Joey Lyons stopped one shot for the Engineers.
