CU Volleyball Preview - at SUNY Potsdam (10/24)

With five straight wins, including two in the Liberty League, the Clarkson University Volleyball team is on a roll going into the home stretch of its season. The Golden Knights will have their shortest distance of the year for a road game on Tuesday night when they head across town to take on SUNY Potsdam at Maxcy Hall.

The Series: Potsdam leads Clarkson 56-42 in the all-time series, but the Golden Knights haven't lost to the Bears in over a decade, winning 20 straight matches dating back to 2006. Clarkson swept Potsdam in straight sets in early September, holding the Bears to a negative hitting percentage (-.036).

Key Stats for Clarkson (15-7 overall): Though the current crop of Knights have only played Potsdam twice in the last three-plus seasons, Rachael Aird has proven to be a tough player to stop. The senior middle hitter has averaged 5.58 kills per set with a .417 hitting percentage in two matches versus Potsdam. Sophomore Kate Isaksen, who ranks third in the country in digs per set, also has performed well against the Bears, recording 8.29 digs per set against Potsdam.

Key Stats for Potsdam (11-15 overall): Freshman Anika Anderson leads the Bears in several categories, including kills per set (2.24 kps) and aces per set (0.65 aps). The Bears possess a solid serve game, averaging 2.16 aces per set against all foes besides Clarkson. Versus the Knights, Potsdam still scored four aces, but that averaged to just 1.33 aps. If the Bears hope to break the losing streak against the Knights, they will need to improve dramatically on the offense they showed last time, where they scored just 18 kills against 22 errors in 110 swings.
