CU Women's Hoops Preview - vs. Skidmore (1/10)

There might be some confusion on the part of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team on Tuesday as the Golden Knights will be playing on their home court for the first time in 42 days when they take on Skidmore College.

The Golden Knights, 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League, last played at Alumni Gymnasium on November 29th. Skidmore enters the game at 7-5 overall and 4-0 in conference games.

Last season the Knights claimed both games against Skidmore, winning on the road by 10 and taking their home contest by four, to improve to 22-29 in the all-time series against the Thoroughbreds. Madison Shea was a key part of the victory in Saratoga Springs when she missed only one free throw in 20 attempts for 23 points. This year, Shea has made her way to the free throw line only 20 times all season, but still the rate is near the same as she has buried 18 of those attempts. Averaging 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and league-bests for both assists (4.1 apg) and steals (3.4 spg), Shea is one of three upperclassmen enjoying success in the early going for Clarkson. Junior Devin Sorell leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and she is among the conference leaders in 3-point field goals made with 20, while senior Stephanie Grobe is chipping in 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Junior Kelly Donnelly has picked up right where she left off last season when she was named as the Liberty League's Co-Player of the Year. The third-year guard leads the conference in scoring by a wide margin, averaging 20.9 points per game while ranking second in rebounds with 10.2 per contest. She also is among the league leaders in steals (second, 2.8 spg) and field goal percentage (fourth, 49.2%). No other player on the Thoroughbreds averages double digits, but Veronica Moceri (8.6 ppg) and Migle Vilunaite (7.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg) each make their presence known on offense.
