CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. SUNY Potsdam (11/29)

Four games into the young season for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, the Golden Knights are looking at the glass half full. Though the Knights haven't played a crisp game as of yet, they are still 3-1 and are looking to build even more momentum with a game against SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights have won two straight contests thanks to their stifling defense, while Potsdam enters Tuesday's fray with a record of 1-1. Clarkson has a record of 32-22 against the Bears in 54 all-time meetings, including six straight wins. Last year the Knights doubled up Potsdam 56-28, the lowest point total ever produced by the Bears.

Clarkson has struggled from outside so far, shooting just 27.9% from beyond the 3-point arc, but the team has received enough from its defense and interior to make up for the deficiency from distance. All five starters for the Knights are averaging at least eight points per game, led by junior guard Devin Sorell's 12.0 ppg. Senior Stephanie Grobe is contributing 11.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while junior guard Madison Shea has an impressive all-around line with 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.8 steals per contest. Freshman Molly Stewart is kicking in 8.5 points per game, and senior forward Alyssia Marsal is just shy of a double-double average with 8.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, to go along with 2.5 steals and 2.5 assists per contest.

The Bears have been on both sides of blowouts in their first two games, falling by 15 to Utica in the season-opener but taking a 22-point win against SUNY Canton. Freshman guard Drew Dufrane has acclimated to the college game quickly, averaging 16.0 points per contest with 75% of her points coming on 3-pointers (8-for-20). Sophomore Secret Clark is also kicking in 13.0 points per game, which is even more impressive considering the brevity of action she has seen on the court (17.5 minutes per game). Patti Dorgler is contributing 7.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game, including a 13-point, 9-rebound effort against SUNY Canton, while Abbey Smith is averaging 7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
