CU Women's Basketball Preview - at SUNY Canton (1/22)

Taking a break from the Liberty League schedule with a mark of 6-2 in conference, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team won't have to leave the North Country for its final two out of conference games with the brief run starting down the road when the team takes on SUNY Canton Friday night.

The Golden Knights, winners of six straight with a record of 11-4 overall, are 19-7 all-time against the Kangaroos. SUNY Canton surprised the Knights three years ago when the team was young and depleted with injuries, but Clarkson has claimed a pair of overwhelming wins in the last two meetings.

Clarkson's offense has been clicking to the tune of 82 points per game in its last three outings, including a season-high 88 points against Skidmore on Tuesday night. Two things stand out over those last three games for the Knights; the team is averaging 16 offensive rebounds per game, more than three additional chances than the first 12 games, and the squad is shooting better than 80% from the free throw line, sinking 73 of its 91 chances. The most impressive performance from the line in that span has come from sophomore Madison Shea, who tied a program record with 24 straight free throws and is 31-for-34 in her last three games from the line to help her average 17.7 points per game in the last week. Shea isn't the only player to use an excellent run from the line to push her numbers up in recent games, as senior Ashley Loggins has also missed just once from the line in her last four games (17-for-18). That is just a part of Loggins' strong run as she has averaged 21.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.8 steals since the team faced St. Lawrence last Tuesday.

The Kangaroos (4-10 overall) have picked up just one win against Clarkson in the last 12 meetings dating back to the 1986-87 season and the team will likely need to improve upon its shooting to have a chance at ending that streak on Friday. SUNY Canton has struggled from the 3-point line (22.4%) and the free throw line (58.6%) this season, but make up for it slightly with more than 44 rebounds per game. A veteran-laden time, Caseylynn Fulton leads the team with a near double-double in every game, averaging 13.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Classmates Karyss Terrance and Brianna Sayer are also posting solid numbers, with Terrance tossing in 10.6 ppg and 7.3 rpg while shooting 46.3% from the floor and Sayer scoring 9.8 ppg with a team-best 15 3-pointers. Sophomore Tatiana LaRoche is averaging just 22.5 minutes per game, but has produced in that short time with 10.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.
