Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Sept. 12, 2015

Clarkson Defeats St. John Fisher 3-1

Two second half goals drove the Clarkson Men's Soccer team to a 3-1 win over visiting St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson improves its record to 2-2-1 while St. John Fisher falls to 0-6-0.

The first half did not have many clear cut scoring opportunities for either team until the last six minutes of the period. The ball bounced out of the St. John Fisher box and Jake Davis was there to stroke a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal, leaving the Cardinal goalkeeper flatfooted. It was Davis' first collegiate goal.

The score remained 1-0 until the 59th minute. When Darren Buckley played a long ball into the Clarkson box, Bryan Rollins beat all the Clarkson players to it and tapped his shot into an empty net to tie the score.

With just ten minutes remaining, Clarkson broke the stalemate. Tucker Wilcox lofted a ball over the St. John Fisher defense and Brian Kroetz raced onto it. As Kroetz drove into the box, he calmly put his shot into the lower right corner to give Clarkson a 2-1 lead.

The Golden Knights added an insurance goal with just two minutes remaining. A ball was played over the St. John Fisher defense and as a defender tried to collect it, Wilcox rushed in and was able to intercept the pass. He dribbled into the box and hit his shot into the upper right corner. It was his fourth goal of the season, which is a new career high for him.

Clarkson finished with a 13-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Riley McDonald made one save for Clarkson while Joseph Catalfamo made four stops for St. John Fisher.

Clarkson's next game will be next Friday when they host Buffalo State for a 7:00 pm game.
