Clarkson Earns 2-2 Tie with Geneseo

In just four games this season, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team has had three overtime contests. The third overtime game saw the Golden Knights finish in a 2-2 tie with the Geneseo Knights on Friday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson's record now stands at 1-2-1 while Geneseo boasts a 3-0-1 record.

Geneseo came into the game having allowed just one goal in their three games and it showed in the first half as the Golden Knights struggled to create scoring opportunities. The first half ended scoreless with Geneseo holding a 6-0 edge in shots.

The Green and Gold came out much stronger in the second half and began to gain more and more possession in the Geneseo end. It was Geneseo that struck first though. In the 70th minute, Mike Skrzypczyk found space on the left side and lofted a cross into the Clarkson box. Matt D'Amico crashed the back post and tapped the cross in to break the deadlock.
 
Clarkson continued to attack the Geneseo defense and just six minutes after the Golden Knights went down, they scored the equalizing goal. A Clarkson corner kick was cleared by Geneseo to the top of the box where Paul Ancin stepped up and hit a screaming line drive into the lower right corner of the net.

Clarkson was not done though, and just 44 seconds after play had restarted, Clarkson took the lead. A Clarkson free kick was played into the box and Drew Lewis won it
right near the end line. He turned and played a ball back across the box for Maximilian Leetz to drive into the goal.

With the impetus to score swinging back to Geneseo, the Knights pushed men forward to score the equalizing goal. It came in the 82nd minute. Geneseo won one of its 12 corners and crossed the ball into the box. D'Amico rose up to win the header and directed the ball to the near post where Connor Beisner flicked it in.

The two teams headed to overtime looking to grab a game-winning goal. But after two ten minute periods, the game remained tied. The tie is the first in 12 games
between the two schools.

Geneseo held a 27-10 edge in shots and a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Michael King made seven saves in goal for Clarkson with Logan Calvey stopping three shots for Geneseo.

Clarkson will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm when they host the St. John Fisher Cardinals.
