Box Score
The Clarkson University Hockey team was not rewarded for a strong effort against a good team in a tough building on the road Friday night as the Golden Knights fell 2-1 in overtime to Cornell at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY.

The Golden Knights looked to be in good position to extend their unbeaten streak to three games when they went on a five-minute power play with just 30 seconds left in regulation. The Big Red (1-3-1, 1-2), however, took advantage of a Clarkson mistake early in the extra session and scored a shorthanded goal to pull out their first win of the season. Eric Freschi netted the game-winner off an assist from Joel Lowry on a 2-on-1 break at 1:37 of overtime.

Clarkson, which stands at 3-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in ECAC Hockey, closes out a four-game road trip at sixth-ranked Colgate tomorrow with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at Starr Rink in Hamilton.

After a scoreless first period against Cornell, the Knights took the initial lead on junior Pat Megannety's (Oakville, ONT) first point of the season early in the middle frame. Megannety, who has tallied seven career points against the Big Red, scored his 12th career goal on a hard wrist shot at 4:28 with sophomore Jordan Boucher (St. Therese, QUE) and junior defenseman Paul Geiger (Stouffville, ONT) assisting.

Cornell tied the game midway through the period on Lowry's power-play marker at 10:12.

Cornell outshot Clarkson 29-24. The Knights were 0-of-4 with the man-advantage, while the Big Red went 1-of-3 on the power play.

Sophomore Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) was strong in the Clarkson crease with a 27-save effort, including 11 first-period stops.
