CU Women's Soccer Preview - vs. RPI/Union 10/3-4

Leading scorer Nikki Carfi will lead Women's Soccer against RPI and Union this weekend.

With a win in their first conference game, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team are tied for first in the conference as they return home this weekend to host RPI for a 4:00 pm game on Friday, and then Union for a 2:00 pm game on Saturday, both on Hantz Turf Field.

RPI comes into the game with an overall record of 5-3-1, including a current streak of three wins in a row and they are now ranked ninth in the East Region.  They will be the last team to open the conference portion of their schedule when they play at Clarkson on Friday. Clarkson has an all-time record of 10-18-3 against RPI, and has struggled in recent years, having last defeated the Engineers in 2009.

Union comes into the weekend with a sterling 7-1-1 record and are ranked 25th in the country along with third in the East Region. They hold a 1-0-1 conference record which places them just below Clarkson in the league table. They have earned their record by being strong on both sides of the ball. They have scored 15 goals while only allowing opponents to score five goals, both stats place them third in the conference. The series between Clarkson and Union has been dominated by the Dutchwomen, who hold a 20-0-1 record against the Golden Knights. However, the Green and Gold were able to tie Union just three years ago and last year lost a hard-fought game just 1-0 at Union.

Clarkson was able to win their first conference game, thanks to great defending and a timely goal. The goal came courtesy of leading scorer Nikki Carfi (Liverpool, N.Y.) who was able to score off a pass from Lauren Flynn (Andover, M.A.) in the 80th minute. Kim Kenline (Akron, N.Y.) made seven saves in the game to collect her fourth shutout of the year, which places her in a tie for second on the conference leaderboard. Along with Kenline among the conference leaders, are freshman Madison Kather (Amherst, N.Y.) who is tied for fourth in assists with three helpers, and Megan Strijek (Schenectady, N.Y.) who is tied for fourth in shots with 30.
