Kosziwka Scores Twice in the Knights' 3-2 Win at Syracuse

Gabrielle Kosziwka recorded her second career two-goal game in the win at Syracuse
Senior Gabrielle Kosziwka (Limehouse, ONT) scored twice and sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) connected for the game-winner as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team gained a hard fought 3-2 non-league victory over Syracuse in Central NY Friday night.

The Golden Knights, who are unbeaten in their last three games (2-0-1), host the Orange on Saturday afternoon in a 3:30 p.m. contest at Cheel Arena to complete the weekend home-and-home series against the College Hockey America foe. Clarkson stands at 2-1-2 overall, while Syracuse is 2-3.

The Orange got the early jump on Clarkson at the Tennity Ice Pavilion with a goal by Margot Scharfe at 11:21 of the first period. Late in the stanza, however, the Knights would tie the game when Kosziwka connected off an assist by junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) at 17:22.

After as scoreless second period, Kosziwka put the Green and Gold on top with her second goal at 7:38 of the third with sophomore Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) assisting. At the 14:00 mark, the Orange’s Kaillie Goodnough tallied unassisted to knot the game at 2-2.

The Knights’ leading scorer last season, Rattray came through with the game-winner with 2:19 remaining for her second goal of the season. Sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) assisted.

Syracuse held a significant advantage in shots with a 36-19 margin, but sophomore goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) was up to the task with a 34-save effort, including 28 stops over the final 40 minutes.

The Knights were 0-of-5 on the power play, while Syracuse was 0-of-4 with the extra skater.
