Union Defeats Knights

January 16, 2009

Schenectady, NY - An 18-0 run late in the first half proved to be too much for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to overcome, as the Golden Knights lost the Liberty League conference opener to Union College 74-36 Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in conference action, while Union moved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League. Clarkson looks to salvage a weekend split when it visits Skidmore on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams struggled early on from an offensive standpoint as the two teams were tied 6-6 with seven minute expired from the game clock. Union produced a 7-0 run and held an 18-10 edge advantage with just over six minutes to go before unloading with an 18-0 run in less than five minutes to go up 36-10, finishing out the half with a 24-point lead (38-14).

Sophomore guard Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) led the Knights with 12 points, shooting 4-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc. For Union, Lauren McCormick had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Leah Pepe added 10 points and Michelle Rogers had 8 points and 9 rebounds.
