Saratoga Springs, NY - Freshman Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) scored a team-high 11 points for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but a 8-0 run in the final two minutes by Skidmore sent the Golden Knights to their fifth straight league loss, 59-51, on Friday night.
Clarkson fell to 3-17 overall and 1-8 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore moved to 12-8 and 5-4. The Knights will face Union on Saturday.
The game was close throughout, except when the Knights were able to take and eight-point lead, 19-11, with eight minutes remaining in the first, but Skidmore narrowed that margin to three points by the end of the first half. The second half was much closer as neither team could ever gain a lead of more than three points. Finally, in the last two minutes of the contest with the game tied 51-51, Skidmore ended with a 8-0 run as Clarkson's offense was stymied, going 0-for-3 from the field with two turnovers in its final five possessions.
Goldberg led the Knights offensively with 11 points, making three 3-point field goals. Freshman Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) also added in 10 points coming off the bench. Rachel Whitermore (Holliston, MA) made four steals, and Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) made up for her struggles from the field (2-for-7) with 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Amber Kinsey led Skidmore with 13 points, and Kellye Caufield added 10 points for the Thoroughbreds.
