Plattsburgh, NY – Freshman Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) scored 14 of her career-high 18 points in the final seven minutes to lead the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team in an impressive 60-57 come-from-behind victory over Plattsburgh State Tuesday night at Memorial Hall.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-1 overall and play one week from now when they host Potsdam State.

A tight first half saw the score knotted at 13-13 after a 3-pointer from Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY), but from that point on, the Cardinals controlled play. A 13-3 run over the course of the next six minutes gave Plattsburgh State a double-digit lead, something that they would hold through to intermission, leading 35-25 at the break.

In the second half, it appeared as if the Cardinals would run away with the game with a slow start by the Knights. Trailing by as many as 14 points on a few occasions, Clarkson was down 47-34 with just 10:10 to go in the game. However, the Knights got hot from the floor and made that deficit evaporate, flying back to tie the score up 49-49 with just 3:16 remaining. A Carey Turner 3-pointer gave Clarkson its first lead with 2:38 remaining, and the Knights maintained their strong scoring effort for the remainder of the game, holding off the Cardinals for the victory.

A quick glance at the scoresheet shows the Cardinals edging out the Knights in numerous important categories, including a 46-40 lead in rebounds, forcing 29 turnovers while committing 19, and taking 23 additional shots compared to Clarkson. However, the Knights hit 24-of-51 shots from the field, while Plattsburgh struggled mightily going 24-for-74 (32.4%) from the field and just 7-for-18 (38.9%) from the free throw line.

Turner led all scorers with 18 points and added in six rebounds and seven assists, shooting 8-for-15 from the floor. Pluchino finished with a career-high 17 points, shooting 7-for-9 from the field, to go along with six rebounds in just 21 minutes. Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Though Clarkson shot just 7-for-21 from beyond the 3-point arc, the Knights were clutch down the stretch, making four of the final six attempts from long range.

Vanessa Arthurton was the leader for the Cardinals, scoring 16 points (7-for-13 from the field) and grabbing 10 rebounds. Erin Silberberg added 14 points, but shot just 5-for-22, and Taylor Amarando added 10 points and eight boards.
