Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Stanzi McGlynn took nine corner kicks for St. Lawrence and two found her teammates in the goalie box for goals as the Saints downed the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team 3-0 in Liberty League action on Thursday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 1-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference while St. Lawrence improved to 7-2-0 and 2-1-0 in Liberty League play. Clarkson returns to action next weekend when it hosts Skidmore and Union.

St. Lawrence took control of the game early on, but was unable to score through its first few attempts on goal. That changed at the 22:08 mark in the first half when Megan Howard scored her second goal of the season as she was able to chip a shot past Clarkson keeper Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY), with an assist going to Katie Oram. Just seven minutes later, Stanzi McGlynn sent a soaring kick off a corner into the penalty area and the ball found its way to Lauren Sischo, who kicked the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Saints lead.

Midway through the second half, another McGlynn corner kick found its way to the head of Becca Townsend, who knocked the ball in over Emlaw to give Clarkson a 3-0 lead.

The corner kicks proved to be the difference in the game as St. Lawrence ended with a 9-0 edge in that statistic. The Saints also held a 16-9 edge in shots.

Clarkson had a handful of chances, none of which were better than a flurry of shots that were saved or hit the crossbar with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the half. Unable to close the gap, the Golden Knights could do nothing but chase the Saints around as they held on to the ball to kill the clock late in the game.

Emlaw finished with seven saves for Clarkson. Hayleigh Hochberg stopped four shots for her fourth shutout of the season.
