January 21, 2006

Poughkeepsie, NY - Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the junior forward didn't get a lot of scoring help from the rest of her teammates as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team fell 67-44 in a Liberty League contest against Vassar College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped their fourth straight game and fell to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference while Vassar picked up its first Liberty League win to move to 1-4 and 6-9 overall. Clarkson visits archrival St. Lawrence on Tuesday.

For the second straight night, the Golden Knights struggled from the field, shooting just 6-for-21 in the first half and then 6-for-28 in the second half. Vassar started off slow in the first half, but improved considerably in the second half, shooting 57.7 percent from the field. The Brewers also seemed able to finish off plays, producing 21 assists on 27 field goals made.

Wesner scored 17 points, shooting 11-for-14 from the free throw line, to lead the Golden Knights. Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) added seven points while sophomore Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY), coming back from a month-long injury, scored 6 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 steals.
