Potsdam – A quick run from the beginning of the game was too much for the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team to overcome as Union sent the Golden Knights to a 67-35 Liberty League loss Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the Liberty League while Union improved to 8-4 through 12 games while moving to 2-0 in conference play. Clarkson continues the Liberty League slate tomorrow afternoon when they face Skidmore College.

Union and Clarkson were tied 3-3 at 19:37, but for the next 13 minutes, the Dutchmen dominated the game, going on a 37-6 run for a 40-9 lead with 6:24 remaining. Union shot an impressive 65.5% from the floor (19-for-29) and was even more impressive from beyond the 3-point arc, shooting 6-for-8 (75%). Erika Eisenhut scored 10 points, making each of her four attempts from the field, to lead Union. Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) was 4-for-9 from the floor for a team-high nine points for the Golden Knights.

Neither team started the second half on much of a shooting streak as Union struggled from inside and uncharacteristically began turning the ball over. A torrid pace was slowed considerably as Union scored just three points in the first 11 minutes of the second half, but the Golden Knights could not take advantage as they tallied only five points in the same time span. After restarting their offense, the Dutchmen began to extend their lead back into the mid-30s and held on for the win.

Eisenhut finished the game with 10 points as Union’s leading scorer. Ten different players recorded at least one field goal for the Dutchmen. Fritjofson scored just one more point in the second half to finish with a game-high 10 points. Kelly Fink (Verona, NY) added six points and seven rebounds for Clarkson.
