SAINTS SLIP IN THREE GOALS AS CLARKSON LOSES TO SLU

September 14, 2005

Canton, NY - In a span of 17 minutes, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team saw its winning momentum halted in a 3-0 Liberty League loss to St. Lawrence University Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play while St. Lawrence moved to 3-0 with its third straight shutout of the season. Clarkson returns to action this weekend when the Knights host Hilbert College on Saturday.

The two teams played scoreless soccer for the first 37 minutes of action before the Saints capitalized. Ashley Monus bounced a ball in after the ball bounded around in the goalie's box to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Knights had an opportunity to tie the game late in the first half, but sophomore Alicia Chace's (Cortland, NY) crossing pass failed to connect with any other Golden Knights.

The Saints took little time in adding to their lead in the second half with a goal at the 45:53 mark by Lindsey Sullivan and then put the game away with a goal at the 54:10 mark of the second half by Lauren Sischo.

Meagan Emlaw (Norwood, NY) stopped three shots in just under 60 minutes while Lauren Arredondo (Allendale, NJ) held the Saints without a goal in the final 30 minutes and did not have to make a save. Carly Draper made three saves for her third consecutive shutout.

Clarkson was out shot 14-6, but held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
