Potsdam, NY – Freshman goalie Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) stopped all 38 shots she faced to record her first career shutout and lead the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team over the University of Vermont 1-0 at Cheel Arena. Sophomore center Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) netted the game’s lone goal at the 5:22 mark of the first period. Allgood lifted a pass from freshmen Lauren Lubrano (Ridgefield, CT) over the right shoulder of Catamounts junior goalie Kami Cote for her second goal in as many days.

Clarkson held the edge in play for the first period out shooting UVM 11-5, but the advantage didn’t last. The Catamounts turned up the pressure over the final two periods out shooting the Golden Knights 17-8 and 16-8, respectively. Cote, who finished with 26 saves, was pulled for the final 1:15. UVM created several last second opportunities, but couldn’t solve McDonald.

The Catamounts (0-5-1) went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Clarkson finished 0-for-3. The Golden Knights improve to 2-1-1 on the season and return to action on Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. for a weekend series at Elmira College.
